A MAN was sentenced to one year in prison yesterday after being found guilty of possessing an unlicenced revolver with five live rounds of ammunition.

Kareem Williams, 26, represented by lawyer Yule Johnson, stood before Magistrate Samuel McKinney for the conclusion of his trial for possession of an unlicenced firearm and possession of ammunition.

On May 26 in New Providence, Williams was arrested after he was found with a .38 revolver. He was also found in possession of five unfired rounds of .38 caliber ammunition.

After hearing the testimony of several witnesses, including Williams’ arresting officers, the magistrate found Williams guilty of the offence.

Magistrate McKinney sentenced Williams to one year at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS) for each charge to be served concurrently. Williams is also expected to pay a fine of $7,500 or face an additional six months in custody.

The magistrate further imposed an 18-month probation on Williams after his release from custody. During that time, if he is found in breach of the law, it would result in another six months in prison.
