A MALE juvenile was granted $8,000 bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday after being reportedly found with a loaded gun.

The 16-year-old, in the presence of his mother and attorney Roberto Reckley, was charged before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

He faced charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

On August 6 in New Providence, the juvenile was arrested when authorities allegedly found him with a black Austria Glock 9mm pistol. The serial number had been erased. The boy was also found with 11 unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges. Mr Reckley pointed out to the magistrate that the firearm was only in his client’s general area. He said the 16-year-old had suffered two seizures while in custody.

Mr Reckley asked that his client, who has a history of seizures, not be placed on remand because of medical concerns.

In view of this, the magistrate granted the juvenile $8,000 bail with two sureties. Under the conditions of his bail the accused is expected to be fitted with a monitoring device and remain on curfew at his home from 5pm until 8am each day.

The accused is expected to return to court in full school uniform for trial on November 23.
