Man set on fire after being doused in gas

A MAN was doused with gasoline and then set on fire on Tuesday, according to police.

Initial reports were that the man, who was suffering from first degree burns, was taken to a local clinic in the Carmichael Road area after the incident occurred.

Police are now searching for the occupants of a dark purple coloured Nissan Note, who are believed to be responsible for the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2 or 328-TIPS.

Meanwhile, police said they were able to arrest a 21-year-old man believed to be responsible for an alleged attempted armed robbery on Wednesday.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight in the parking lot at a beach in western New Providence.

Police said a man and woman were sitting in their vehicle when a gold coloured Honda Accord, licence plate number AE1202, with two men pulled up. The men got out of the vehicle and pulled out a black handgun in an attempt to rob the couple. Following this, officers on mobile patrol were making routine checks of the area when the suspects were alerted and attempted to flee towards the beach.

The officers saw a man in dark clothes running away, attempting to evade officers by jumping into the water. The man was arrested a short time later and is assisting police with their investigations.

Police are appealing to members of the public for their assistance in locating the second suspect in this incident who was able to escape on foot. He was dressed in dark clothes when last seen.
