Boys kick off CONCACAF U-17 qualifiers with 2-1 victory over Saint Martin

THE Bahamas Football Association’s under-17 boys kicked off their 2022 CONCACAF U17 Qualifiers with a big 2-1 victory over Dutch territory Saint Martin.

After Saint Martin took the initial lead in the first half, the Bahamas’ Reuben Edgecombe clawed the squad back into the match with a 25-yard rocket which caught the keeper off his line.

Kai Perez got the game winner off a rebound from a long free kick by captain William Gardiner to go up 2-1. The defence continued to frustrate the Saint Martin squad as they could not break the Bahamas team down.

A timely save by Bahamian goalkeeper Ahmaad Smith allowed the Bahamas to walk off with the victory in the rainy conditions. Kai Perez was named the Man of the Match.

The squad was led by head coach Nesly Jean and coaches Kevin Davies and Avery Kemp along side technical director Bruce Swan.

The team now begins preparations for their next match at 11am Thursday against powerhouse Guyana.
