THE Abaco Tennis Association (ATA) has fulfilled its motto of “Preparing Our Youths for Success through Tennis” by hosting its first Back To School Jubilee.

The two-day event, held in Dundas Town and Forrest Heights, Abaco was a great success.

On day one the Abaco Tennis Association hosted a tennis clinic for juniors with guest coach Sidney Pratt from Freeport. Kids from Abaco and Grand Bahama came together in the clinic, an excellent cross-island training opportunity.

On day two, the juniors participated in singles competition while the adults participated in singles and doubles competitions.

The kids were able to put some of the things they learned on day one into practice right away. The adults also had a great time as they competed.

Junior winners were as follows:

A Category: Winner- Latahj Orlando. Runner-Up - Aiden Ritchie.

B Category: Winner - Oneal Hanna. Runner Up - Lloyshard Russell.

C Category: Winner - Miracle Poitier. Runner Up - William Thompson

Adult Winners

Men Singles: Winner - Perry Newton. Runner Up- Clanardo CJ Davis.

Women Singles: Winner - Cameel McDonald. Runner Up- Esther Newton.

Men Doubles: Winners - Clanardo CJ Davis/Abishai Adderley. Runner Up - Macquel McDonald/ Randy Davis.

Cameel McDonald, the president of ATA, welcomed BLTA president Perry Newton to the Tennis Jubilee and thanked him for his presence.

McDonald was thankful for the use of the Forest Heights and Dundas Town courts.

She expressed her appreciation to guest coach Pratt and his travelling team which represented in good numbers.

She extended thanks to Ms Lightbourne and the team from the Red Cross and to the sponsor, Triple B, for their support of the event.

“As the sun sets on a beautiful tennis event we know that this will be the first of many Back To School Jamborees in Abaco,” said a press release.
