A MAN was yesterday accused of raping a woman in the nation’s capital late last month.

Patrick Lewis, 26, faced Magistrate Samuel McKinney on a charge of rape.

On November 25 in New Providence, Lewis is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with a 31-year-old woman without her consent.

Due to the nature of the offence, Lewis was not required to enter a plea at this time. His case will go to the Supreme Court through a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

The accused was told that as the magistrate did not have the jurisdiction to grant him bail, he could apply for it in the Supreme Court. Until then, he will be sent to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

Lewis’ VBI will be served on February 12, 2023.
