Nesbitt, Miller play key roles in FIBA Basket Champions League Americas

TAVARIO Miller and David Nesbitt continue to play key roles for their teams as the group stage continues in the FIBA Basketball Champions League Americas.

The second day of action tipped off for both Group B and Group C in the second stage and both players were in action.

Minas faced off against Obras and Quimsa faced a Sao Paulo team that had just won big against Nacional.

Miller and Minas are off to a 1-1 start. In game one he finished with 12 points and six rebounds on 5-5 shooting from the field in a 77-74 win over Obras Sanitarias. He followed with nine points and five rebounds in last night’s 96-91 loss to Bigua in Uruguay. Minas fell to 3-1 in Group C.

In Brazil’s NBB they remain one of the top ranked teams at 13-3.

Minas led all BCLA teams in scoring per game in the opening round with an average of 95-points per game.

Since the first round, they defeated both Flamengo and Sao Paulo to win Brazil’s Super 8 Cup.

Following two seasons in Argentina, Miller headed to the NBB last offseason.

In Argentina he spent 40 games with Boca Juniors. He averaged 13.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and helped the team advance to the semifinals. Nesbitt finished with eight points and seven rebounds in last night’s 71-68 win over Flamenco.

He began the weekend with a game high 16 points in an 86-66 win over UDC.

Nesbitt is averaging 13.8 points per game in BCL play.

Boca Juniors are at 3-1 in Group D after losing to Flamengo and beating UdeC. In the Argentine league they are at 10-4.

Nesbitt made the move to Argentina after a four year tenure in Brazil’s Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). He spent last season with Minas.

In 31 games, he averaged 10.4 points and 5.5 points per game en route to being named an NBB All-Star.
