A 33-YEAR-OLD man who was caught with a small amount of marijuana earlier this week was yesterday placed on probation for three months.

Dominique Wilson was arrested after police found one ounce of marijuana on him on February 5.

Sometime around 2pm officers were on mobile patrol in the area of Poinciana Drive where they observed three men, one of whom was Wilson.

Upon seeing the officers, the men drove off at a high rate of speed. However, they were eventually stopped and later searched by officers.

While searching the men, police found a clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana estimated to have a street value of $70 near Wilson.

He was arrested and taken to the Drug Enforcement Unit, where he admitted the offence.

During yesterday’s hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle- Davis, Wilson pleaded guilty to drug possession and said the drugs were for his personal use.

Asked about his reasons for smoking, the 33-year-old told the court it was a “bad habit” he picked up in his younger years and added he smoked marijuana occasionally.

However, Wilson told the magistrate he was willing to change his ways and was sorry for his actions.

Having taken into consideration Wilson’s clean record, Magistrate Rolle- Davis placed him on three months’ probation.

The accused was warned failure to comply with the conditions of his release would result in three months behind bars.

“Your life is in your hands,” the magistrate said.

Also appearing in court on similar offences were 60-year-old Wilfred Meadows and his niece, Komecia Williams, 19.

The two were arrested after police found them with eight grams of cocaine on February 2.

Police said they were on mobile patrol when they noticed the duo acting in a suspicious manner.

The accused were stopped and subsequently searched, where they found a clear plastic bag containing suspected cocaine.

Williams told police she was given the drugs by Meadows, who is her uncle.

After pleading guilty to the offence, their attorney asked the court for leniency, noting Meadows’ old age and clean record prior to his arrest.

He also noted Meadows, a father-of-seven, used cocaine for medical purposes and was remorseful for his actions.

The attorney also begged the court to have mercy on Williams, who he said was asked to conceal the drugs from police on the night in question.

The attorney said while her actions were “stupid”, she deserved a second chance as this was her first run in with the law.

In response, Magistrate Rolle-Davis acquitted Williams and she was subsequently discharged.

However, Meadows’ case was a
