THREE Haitian men and a Haitian woman were fined in court yesterday on immigration charges.
Francesca Sanon, 22, and Sony Belotte, 43, appeared before Magistrate Algernon Allen after they were caught still living in the Bahamas after the expiration of the time granted to them.
In Sanon’s case, immigration officers said she overstayed her welcome in the country for about four years. For Bellote, officers said he had overstayed for six years.
Both pleaded guilty to the offences.
As a result, Sanon was fined $1,500 or in default, six months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
Meanwhile, Bellote was fined $2,000 or one year in prison.
Also appearing before court yesterday was Obel Yoldy, 26, and Jeff Sejour, 42, who were both charged with illegal landing.
After admitting to the offences, Yoldy was fined $2,000 or one year behind bars while Sejour was fined $500 or six months in prison.
Magistrate Allen also told the accused that once the fines were paid, they would be handed over to the Department of Immigration for deportation.
