Shame on Clint Watson

EDITOR, The Tribune.

On 1st February “Our News Bahamas” posted a newscast on YouTube of media personnel being denied interviews with Government Ministers on their way to Cabinet at The Office of the Prime Minister in the Cecil Wallace-Whitfield Building on Cable Beach.

The report detailed the PM’s Press Secretary, Clint Watson rudely refusing his fellow media professionals to interview Cabinet Ministers. It was reported that Watson superciliously told his former colleagues “Reporters cannot depend on the Cabinet to get stories“ and that “no Minister owes the Media an interview.”

This action by Watson is so ironic since he was very aggressive in demanding and extracting answers from government ministers to questions he posed to them under the FNM administration.

It is amazing how people can change when they move up in life and become elevated from the unwashed masses, totally oblivious of their humble beginnings.

Watson’s attitude toward his confreres reminds me of Shakespeare’s observation of such persons in Julius Caesar when he wrote, “Tis common proof that lowliness is young ambition’s ladder, Whereto the climber upward turns his face. But when he once attains the upmost round, he then, unto the ladder turns his back, looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees by which he did ascend.”

As we say ova-da-hill, “it take dat kind...”

How soon do we forget. Remember, that the same people you pass on your way up, you will pass on your way back down.

Be mindful of this, Mr. Watson.
