NEW Providence police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in the Cowpen Road area on Saturday.

Although police have not officially released the deceased’s identification, The Tribune understands the victim is Rashad Stubbs, 26.

According to a Royal Bahamas Police Force release, sometime before 1am officers were called to a residence located at Cowpen Road west of Faith Avenue, where a man was found unresponsive.

“Officers responded and on their arrival, they were directed to where the male was located on the outside of the residence. An assessment of the body revealed a wound to the chest which was consistent with gunshot wounds. The victim was later pronounced lifeless by Emergency Medical Services,” police said.

Delano Munroe, Mr Stubbs’ uncle, said his nephew lived on Cowpen Road west. He added that some other family lived there as well.

Asked if any family was present when the incident happened, Mr Munroe said: “Most of them. The majority of them was on property when it took place.

“… Most of them who gave an account of what happened initially said they heard, I guess one shot, one single shot and then the dog barking.”

Mr Munroe said relatives are “all in disbelief” about Mr Stubbs’ death.

“They are sad and they have a lot of the questions,” he said yesterday. “Rashad is the type of person you know, obviously he’s the type of person who didn’t deserve what happened to him. So obviously the question of why, what happened and what took place and so forth.”

Mr Stubbs was described as someone who stayed to himself, had a job and was not problematic. He was said to be focused on taking care of his seven-month-old daughter.

Mr Munroe said he was the last person to actually see his nephew.

“He asked me to take him to the bank that night and take him for something to eat and when I dropped him back home which would’ve been 10.30-10.40, he said ‘what is your day like tomorrow and what all you have planned?’

“…I explained to him that I have community service, this and that. He said ‘okay you have a full day. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow’ but he left at 10.30 in good spirits, in high spirits looking forward to seeing his daughter and spending time with (his) daughter.”

This comes after another man was shot dead in Pinewood Gardens on Thursday night.

Police said sometime after 11pm, officers were alerted to a shooting on Wild Guava Street, Pinewood Gardens.

Responding officers found an unresponsive man lying in the street.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced the victim lifeless at the scene.

An initial investigation revealed that the victim was walking south on Wild Guava Street when he was approached by a gunman, police said.

On seeing the suspect, the victim turned and ran, however the gunman shot him several times in his body. The victim collapsed in the street, police said.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call police at 502-9991, Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS(8477) — or the nearest police station.
