A 26-year-old man accused of stealing and several fraud related offences was yesterday granted bail before his trial.

Malik Smith appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis accused of stealing a man’s wallet containing over $800 cash on February 9.

He is also accused of having 36 bank cards in his possession that officers suspect were stolen.

It is further alleged that between February 5 and 9, the 26-year-old purchased food and drinks and rented several rooms at different hotels and inns by means of false pretences.

During yesterday’s hearing, the accused denied allegations of stealing, unlawful possession and fraud by false pretences.

As a result, the matter was adjourned to May 9-13 for trial.

The accused was also granted $2,500 bail with one surety for the stealing charges and $3,500 bail for the unlawful possession. As for the fraud related matters, the magistrate granted him $3,000 bail on the first count, $5,000 bail on the second count, $2,500 on the third count and $1,000 on the remaining charge.

Smith is represented by attorney Ian Cargill.
