Man accused of possession of drugs

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN was charged in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Kevin Deleveaux, 27, of 15 Jumbay Street, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after his arrest by police and charged with being found with dangerous drugs.

On February 21, officers on patrol near Bishop Way allegedly saw the accused in a hoodie in a bushy area acting suspiciously. Upon spotting the police Deleveaux fled the area, but was later apprehended by authorities.

When the police went back to search the bushes, they uncovered suspected drugs in clear plastic baggies.

Further analysis of the substance identified it as eight ounces of Indian Hemp with an estimated street value of $640.

In court, Deleveaux pleaded guilty to the charges against him despite having denied the charges in his initial police interview. Prior to this incident he had no prior convictions.

Magistrate McKinney gave Deleveaux the choice of paying a $500 fine or spending three months in prison.
