Man faces court on drug charge

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN appeared in court yesterday to face a drug charge after failing to appear for his standing firearm charges trial.

Delbert Bonimy, 22, of Lake Lane, Bel-Air Estates, stood before Senior Magistrate Samuel McKinney, who had cancelled his bail after Bonimy failed to appear in court to answer to charges of possession of a dangerous firearm.

When asked to explain why he skipped bail, Bonimy explained that he didn’t return to court because he was busy working as a fisherman to provide for his newborn child.

Desperate to return to his infant, Bonimy asked the court to release him from custody on bail again.

While the warrant for his arrest was cancelled for missing his previous court date, he was told he would need to find one new suretor to pay his new bail of $1,500 before his release.

Magistrate McKinney further warned him not to miss court again.

Bonimy then faced his next court charge for possession of dangerous drugs in connection with his arrest on February 23 in New Providence. Police said they found him with more than three ounces of Indian hemp that day.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the latest charge against him and denied any involvement in the matter.

Both of Bonimy’s cases were adjourned to April 11.
