A 28-year-old man who was found with over three ounces of marijuana earlier this week was ordered to pay $400 to avoid spending two months behind bars.

Franklyn Dean was charged with dangerous drug possession with intent to supply after he was caught driving with a package of marijuana on Monday.

The prosecutor told the court sometime around 7.45 pm that day, officers were on mobile patrol in the Robinson Road area when they received certain information about a Nissan Cube.

Acting on that information, officers stopped the driver and conducted a search of the vehicle where they found a plastic bag containing a quantity of suspected marijuana.

The estimated weight of the drugs was three and one quarter ounces.

The defendant was arrested and taken to the nearest police station.

During his interview with police, Dean admitted the offence and told officers he had a “smoking problem”.

Dean confirmed this during his hearing yesterday and asked the court for help.

When asked if he was employed, the 28-year-old replied that he was a construction worker.

As a result, the defendant was fined $400. He was told failure to pay the fine would result in him spending two months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
