AT the U12 ITF/Cotecc tournament, the Bahamas boys and girls team did a remarkable job in representing the country last week in Santo Domingo.

The boys team faced the Dominican Republic in the semifinals match.

Noah Russell, who played the number two singles, lost 0-6, 0-6.

Patrick Mactaggart played the No.1 singles and lost in a competitive three-setter 5-7, 6-3, 4-6. This would be the only singles match Patrick would drop all tournament long.

In the doubles, Kingston Rees and Noah Russell played hard but lost 0-6, 3-6.

The boys would then face Bermuda to determine the 3rd and 4th positions.

Russell would play in the #2 position, he played well but lost 5-7, 2-6. Mactaggart had a strong performance winning in straight sets 6-2 6-3.

Due to a rain delay, the match could not be completed, so Bermuda and Bahamas were both awarded 3rd place finishes.

The Bahamas girls team would end competition against Jamaica. In #2 spot Caitlyn Pratt lost 5 -7, 2-6.

The #1 Marina Bostwick lost 3 -6, 0-6. In the doubles Caitlyn Pratt & S’rae Rodgers were down 1-6, 2-5 when the match was suspended due to the rain.

Despite not recording a win the girls team was able to play some hard-fought matches and obtain good exposure and experience.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates its boys team og Mactaggart, Rees and Russell and the girls team of Bostwick, Pratt and Rodgers, all of whom are newcomers to the international team representation.

“We thank the players and captains coach Artie Johnson and coach Sharon Greene for a good showing at the U12 team competition in Santo Domingo,” the BLTA wrote.
