Two men accused of rape, burglary and armed robbery

TWO young men were charged with burglary, armed robbery and rape, among other offences, in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon.

Warren Tracey Taylor, 23, and Perry Gilbert Russell, 24, appeared before Magistrate Charlton Smith in Court Two in connection with several serious offences that occurred in Freeport between April and May.

Neither man was represented by counsel.

Taylor was charged with burglary, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape and causing harm.

It is alleged that on Thursday, April 28, at Freeport, the accused broke into a residence at Tyne Beach Terrace with intent to commit a felony.

It further alleged that on the same date and place while armed with a knife, the accused robbed the female victim of $470 cash. It is also alleged that he unlawfully imprisoned the victim without her consent and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

Taylor and Perry Russell were both charged with burglary, armed robbery, rape and causing harm.

It is alleged that on Sunday, May 29, at Freeport, the accused men being concerned together, broke into a dwelling house at Tyne Beach Terrace with intent to commit a felony. It is further alleged that the pair concerned together were armed with a knife and robbed the female victim of $520 cash and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. They were also charged with causing harm to the victim.

In a third incident, Taylor was charged separately with burglary, armed robbery, rape and causing harm.

It is alleged that the offences occurred on Friday, May 20, at Freeport when the accused broke into a dwelling of a woman with intent to commit a felony. Taylor is accused of being armed with a knife and robbed the victim of cash, and that he had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. He is also accused of causing harm to the woman.

Perry Russell was charged separately with two counts of armed robbery and one count of causing harm.

It is alleged that on Saturday, May 28, the accused while armed with a knife attempted to rob two women. It is also alleged that Russell caused harm to one of the women.

Magistrate Smith told the men that they were not required to enter a plea to the charges before them. However, they were both denied bail.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Fynes informed the court that the prosecution intends to proceed with a Voluntary Bill of Indictment on September 26, 2022.

A small number of people gathered at the back of the courthouse to get a glimpse and snap photos of the men following their arraignment as they were escorted to a police vehicle.
