FAMILY members of two men killed in a traffic accident on Monday have expressed concern about the response time of first responders to the scene of the incident.

According to reports, the incident happened shortly before 5am.

However, family members have doubts of what the police reported against what was communicated to them by people on the scene in the moments after it took place.

Family members of Ashwood Rolle and Anthony “Fletcher” Coleby said it was “disappointing” to reach the scene before Emergency Medical Services.

Sally Rolle, mother of 29-year-old Ashwood Rolle claimed EMS took an hour-and-a-half to respond to the crash scene.

“An off-duty officer called the ambulance and it took them an hour-and-a-half to come. One day when they get that call it will be their mother, their wife, sister, brother, children and when they reach to the house, what people feeling they are going to feel it,” she said, “They sit there a down and do what they want to do. So, I hope one day when they get the call they don’t feel sorry.”

Ms Rolle urged the police to get their facts straight as she believes the incident occurred shortly after 2am, rather than shortly before 5am as the police have reported.

“Well, the police officers need to get their facts straight as they know they lied. The accident did not happen (at) 5 o’clock in the morning unless he was going to work and he wasn’t coming from work,“ she said, “That happened after two o’clock. So, they need to get their facts straight - tell the people the truth.”

When asked by The Tribune about this matter, Chief Superintendent David Lockhart of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Traffic Division said he was unaware of the concerns by the family.

“I don’t know where they got that information from - we could only go on what was reported to us. The incident was reported closer to 5am,” he said.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force traffic division is continuing investigations into this matter.

Tanya Gaitor, the aunt of Fletcher, said the news was devastating as she described him as a son more than a nephew.

She said: “Fletcher was more than a nephew, he was a son to me, because his mother lived in Andros and he lived here. Anytime he would get in any little trouble or anything it was always me he would call to come to his rescue,” she said.
