$1,000 fine over Indian hemp

A MAN was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 in a Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was found with over 11lbs of Indian hemp.

Valentino Maycock, 38, appeared before magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on charges of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply and money laundering.

At around 11.45am on July 7, officers arrested Maycock after they seized 11lbs and 12oz of Indian Hemp from him alongside $111 in mixed currency believed to be the proceeds of crime. The drugs found with the defendant had an estimated street value of $2,200.

Maycock pleaded guilty to the charges and was summarily fined $1,000 or risk a year in prison.
