THREE young people were arraigned in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court on yesterday in the death of a 78-year-old man two years ago on Grand Bahama.

Eric Nixon, 23, of Beaconsfield Avenue, Freeport; Nickey Green, 38, of West End; and Nickita Green, 22, of Hunters, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Debbye Ferguson.

The trio was also charged with manslaughter by negligence and robbery with violence.

On count one, it is alleged that between November 6 and 12, 2020, in Freeport, the three accused being concerned together robbed Dudley Capron of his wallet and used personal violence towards him.

On count two, it is alleged at the same date and place, the accused being concerned together intentionally caused the death of Dudley Capron by means of negligent harm.

K Brian Hanna represented Eric Nixon and Nikita Green. Nickey Green was not represented by counsel.

They were not required to enter a plea to the charges.

A preliminary inquiry will be held to determine if there is sufficient evidence for them to stand trial in the Supreme Court.

The court prosecutor informed the court the three accused do not qualify for bail in the Magistrate’s Court.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Ferguson denied the trio bail and remanded them to the Department of Correctional Services until November 2, 2022, at 10am.

In other court news, a teen and juvenile were charged with two counts of armed robbery.

DeShawn Lewis, 19, of North Bahamia, Freeport, and a juvenile male appeared before Magistrate Charlton Smith last Thursday.

It is alleged that on July 4 in Freeport, the accused while armed robbed a food store in Pioneer’s Loop Subdivision. Both were not represented by counsel and were not required to enter a plea to the charges.

Magistrate Smith granted the pair $12,000 bail each, with six suretors. The matter was adjourned to August 11 at 10am.
