A MAN was arraigned in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday for allegedly stabbing to death a man on Paradise Island last week.

Elroy Hamilton, 29, stood before Magistrate Shaka Serville on a charge of murder.

According to police at around 8am on July 21 in a docking area on Paradise Island Hamilton is alleged to have caused the death of Barry Williams.

The men reportedly got into an altercation and Williams was stabbed in the upper body, with the resulting injuries proving to be fatal.

Due to the severity of the offence the defendant was not required to enter a plea.

Hamilton was then informed his case would proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

The defendant was further told that he could apply for bail through the Supreme Court, where his trial will be heard. Until such time that bail is formally granted to him Hamilton will be remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS).

Hamilton will return to Magistrate’s Court for service of his VBI on October 5.
