A MAN was granted $2,500 bail yesterday on charges of assaulting his wife and son with a cutlass.

Ricardo Smith Sr appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville on two counts of assault with a dangerous instrument and one count of simple assault.

On July 25 in New Providence, Smith is alleged to have assaulted his wife, Latoya Smith, and their 16-year-old son with a cutlass. Smith faced a further assault charge against his wife on the same day.

Smith elected to continue this matter in Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

While Prosecutor Sergeant Deon Barr had no objections to bail, Magistrate Serville suggested the accused consider alternative living arrangements as his trial continues.

As such, Smith’s bail was set at $2,500 with one or two sureties. The accused was warned not to interfere with the witnesses as it would put his bail at risk.

Smith’s trial will begin on October 24.
