TWO MEN were charged in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with punching a woman and stealing nearly $1,000 worth of her property.

Dexter Kerr, 23, and Emmanuel Bonaby, 28, represented by Ian Cargill, faced Magistrate Kendra Kelly on charges of causing harm and stealing.

On May 27 in New Providence the accused are alleged to have punched Christal Davis in the mouth. According to an official hospital form this attack resulted in Davis suffering a lacerated lip.

During this same incident Kerr and Bonaby are also accused of stealing $925 worth of property from Davis. These items included a gold chain, a Samsung galaxy phone, a blue Alcatel phone, a battery pack and a tan coloured purse.

In court both accused pleaded not guilty to all charges against them and elected to continue the matter in the Magistrate’s Court.

Despite Kerr’s antecedent for a 2020 threats of death charge, there was no objection to bail for either of the accused.

Kerr’s bail was set at $6,000 while Bonaby’s was set at $5,000, both with one or two sureties.

Under the conditions of their bail the accused are expected to sign in at the Cable Beach police station every Friday/Wednesday by 6pm.

Magistrate Kelly warned the accused that they are not to have contact with the complainant or any witnesses in this case upon their release.

Their trial is set for August 26.
