37-year-old accused of unlawful sex with girl

A MAN was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services yesterday after he was accused of unlawful sexual intercourse with a ten-year-old girl.

Patrick Lublin Darelus, 37, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Twice between January 1 and May 1 in New Providence, Darelus is accused of having sex with the child.

Due to the nature of the offences the accused was not required to enter a plea.

He was also informed that his case would proceed by way of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

Although the prosecution objected to Darelus’s bail, he was informed by the magistrate of his right to apply for bail through the Supreme Court where his case ultimately will be heard.

The accused was sent back to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until a decision is made on his bail. He is expected to be served his VBI on September 30.
