A MAN was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services yesterday after he faced a rape charge.

The victim is a 20-year-old woman.

Bayano Fede, 24, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain accused of having sexual intercourse with the woman without her consent on June 22 in New Providence.

In court, Fede was informed that his case would proceed by way of a Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI) and that he had been denied bail.

The accused was also told that his matter had been fast tracked to the Supreme Court where his trial will be heard and where he can also formally apply for bail.

Until bail is granted the accused will be sent back to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS).

Fede is expected to return to court for service of his VBI on August 2.
