Jailed after series of thefts on Andros

AN ANDROS MAN was sentenced to two years and three months in prison yesterday after a series of thefts on the island and escaping the local police station.

Liston Russell, 30, of Love Hill Andros, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on multiple charges. These include three counts of stealing, two counts of receiving, two counts of unlawful entry, trespassing and escape from lawful custody.

Sometime between 11.45pm on June 17 and 12.45am on June 18 after trespassing onto Hope Bay Lodge in Andros the defendant stole Rafa Devito’s $500 iPhone 10 and Odin Sampson’s silver and white iPhone worth $1050.

Then on June 23 after Russell’s arrest he escaped the Fresh Creek Police Station. After this incident the accused broke into the Conch Drop Villa at Brigadiers and stole $200 belonging to Barret McGuire on June 24.

In court Russell pleaded guilty to all nine charges against him.

Magistrate Swain sentenced Russell to serve a total of two years and three months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS).

Russell has within seven days to appeal the court’s sentencing.
