A MAN accused of possessing fake Bahamian currency notes was charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Davanno Miller, 24, appeared before Magistrate Kendra Kelly after he was allegedly found with a number of forged $50 and $20 Bahamian currency notes on February 23.

During yesterday’s hearing, Miller had initially pleaded guilty to the offence.

However, when the magistrate asked the accused if he knew the currency notes were fake, Miller replied, “No”.

He then went on to tell the magistrate how he found them in the glove compartment of a vehicle, but he was stopped from providing further evidence.

Having listened to his explanation, the magistrate recorded a not guilty plea and adjourned the matter to April 4 for trial.

Bail was granted to the accused at $4,000 with one or two sureties.

He was further ordered to report to the Quakoo Street Police Station once a week.

Levardo Cornish, 32, also appeared before Magistrate Kelly in court yesterday charged with fraud by false pretences.

Police say Cornish obtained over $200 worth of food and drinks from “Over the Hill Bar” located at Holiday Inn by means of false pretences on February 25.

The 32-year-old has denied the allegations.

During yesterday’s hearing, the prosecutor asked the matter to be adjourned to allow him to review the charges against Cornish so he could make amendments where necessary.

His request was granted by the magistrate and the matter was adjourned until today.
