Junior Davis Cup: Bahamas boys open with win against Honduras

OPENING day in El Salvador at the Junior Davis Cup was a good one as the Bahamas boys team started the tournament with a win strong against Honduras.

William McCartney won 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of matches.

In the next round Michael Major Jr won the first set and matches got suspended in the second set due to a heavy downpour of rain. The Billy Jean King Cup players also saw action on Day 1. They faced the host nation Dominican Republic.

Jalisa Clarke put in a good effort but lost 0-6, 0-6.

Sierra Rodgers played hard but lost 2-6, 1-6.

The team is down 0-2 awaiting their doubles matches.

Jr Davis Cup members are Michael Major Jr, McCartney, Jackson Mactaggart and Coach Gregory Greene. And the Jr BJK Cup members are Sierra Rodgers, Jalisa Clarke, BreAnn Ferguson and Coach Sharon Greene.

The BLTA wishes both teams good success as the tournament progresses as they represent the country in Santo Domingo. The boys started out very strong with the win.

The girls put in a good effort and will see action again tomorrow.
