Man admits drug and contraband charges

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN pleaded guilty to drug and contraband charges in Magistrates Court after these items were found at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services last month.

Deangelo Neeley, 34, of Poplar Street, appeared before Senior Magistrate Samuel McKinney yesterday for possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply and taking prohibited articles into a correctional facility.

On February 5, police discovered a black plastic bag containing three clear plastic wraps of suspected drugs and contraband items at the female unit of BDCS.

The drugs were later identified as one pound and eight ounces of Indian hemp, while the contraband included five Alcatel cell phones, 1 LTZ cell phone, three cartons of Aspen Blue cigarettes and one pack of Backwoods cigars.

The accused was later identified in connection with these items after his fingerprints were pulled from the evidence. Neely was officially arrested on these charges on March 3.

In court, Neely pleaded guilty to both charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Timothy Bain, told the court the accused had a previous drug conviction from 2016.

Magistrate McKinney informed Neely he would be remanded until his sentencing today.
