Junior Davis Cup: Tennis resumes in Dominican Republic

AFTER heavy rains disrupted the tournament in Santo Domingo for two days there was clear skies today and matches resumed.

The Bahamas Jr Davis Cup team completed the match that was in progress against Dominican Republic.

Jackson Mactaggart lost yesterday and Michael Major Jr would play the next matchup where he won in three sets 2-6,6-3 6-3.

The boys split sets and it will come down to doubles. The boys will also complete the match with Honduras from Monday today.

The Bahamas Jr BJK faced St Lucia. The team lost 1-2. Jalisa Clarke was up first losing 0-4, 1-4. Sierra Rodgers was up next, she won 4-1, 4-0.

In the doubles, BreAnn Ferguson teamed up with Rodgers in a hard fought 3 setter, losing 4-2, 0-4, 3-10.

Due to weather delays the short set format will continue for the rest of the tournament.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association wishes the team all the best.

Although there were reports coming out of Santo Domingo that the team had encountered some problems in team protocol, the BLTA said they got everything worked out and the team was able to continue play in the tournament.
