National basketball team players back to work with clubs

FOLLOWING the latest window of FIBA 2023 World Qualifiers, several national team members were back with their respective clubs as they prepared for a run to the postseason.

Danrad Knowles continues to have an immediate impact on his Agrupación Deportiva Cantbasket 04 Santander club in Spain.

Knowles finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds in a 61-60 win over Gexto last night in the Liga Española de Baloncesto Aficionado (Liga EBA) preseason finale. In his first season with club, Knowles is averaging 11.3 points and six rebounds per game.

AD Cantbasket 04 is based in Santander, Cantabria, Spain, and competes in Liga EBA. It is the fourth tier level in the Spanish basketball system, after the Liga ACB, LEB Oro, and LEB Plata.

Tavario Miller led his Minas Belo Horizontae club to a 78-75 third ranked win over Rio Claro in Brazil’s Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). He finished with 14 points, five rebounds and was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line in 25 minutes. Miller is averaging 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game through 25 contests.

Minas is second in the league standings at 21-4 behind Sesi Franca at 24-1.

Travis Munnings saw an 11-game win streak come to an end for Sporting Lisboa Benfica. He scored six points off the bench in a 68-63 loss to league-leading FC Porto.

Munnings is averaging 8.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, shooting 54 percent from the field and 47 percent from three-point range.

Munnings is currently in his second season in the LPB. Last year he averaged 12.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for UD Oliveirense.

In 14 EuroCup games, Munnings has averaged 8.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

At the national team level, The Bahamas won 86-76 over the US Virgin Islands and lost 90-65 to The Dominican Republic at the Palacio de los Deportes in the Dominican Republic in the FIBA Qualifiers last month.

In the win over UVSI, Knowles had 14 points and seven rebounds, Miller had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Munnings had six points, nine rebounds and 11 assists.

In the loss to The Dominican Republic, Munnings was the leading scorer with 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Miller had 14 points and six rebounds, and Knowles scored 12.
