Rangers’ Bannister assigned to spring training

ZION Bannister continues his progression within the Texas Rangers organisation and was called up to the club’s main roster for Spring Training.

On March 26, the 20-year-old 6’3” 189- pound outfield prospect was assigned to the Spring Training roster for Cactus League play in Surprise, Arizona.

Bannister was signed by the Rangers in July 2019 and made his debut on the Dominican Summer League roster the following month.

As a member of the DSL Rangers 2 he hit .273 with six hits, one RBI, and a .333 OPS.

He progressed to the AZL Rangers of the Arizona Rookie League on August 15 as a late season call up and appeared in 37 games where he hit .227 with six doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI.

Bannister went 2-5 with his first professional home run and five RBI in the ACL Rangers’ 14-12 win over the ACL Indians on July 12. Bannister’s two-out, grand slam in the eighth inning provided the go-ahead runs for the Rangers in the come from behind win.

Alongside fellow Bahamian Keithron Moss, Bannister helped the club clinch the 2019 ACL title.

Following the season, he was assigned to the Rangers’ Futures roster in September.
