AFTER three years with the Ole Miss Rebels, Sammy Hunter has entered his name into the transfer portal and search for a new programme to continue his athletic and academic career.

Hunter issued a statement yesterday to his official social media accounts.

“First off I would like to thank God for the opportunity to play the game I love, basketball. I want to thank coach Davis and especially coach Levi for the opportunity to play at a power five school,” Hunter said.

“To all the friends I have made I want to say thank you for always accepting and welcoming me into the Ole Miss community. To thefans in the pavilion, I would like to thank you for being some of the best in college basketball. Most importantly I would like to thank my brothers, the people who stayed with me through every practice, game, and long talks about basketball and life. With that being said, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal. Forever pushing P……23 out.” Hunter came to Ole Miss as a consensus three star prospect in 2019.

As a true freshman, he played in 27 games, primarily off the bench, averaging 12.1 minutes per game and averaged 2.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

He scored a career-high eight points in a November win over Western Michigan and finished with seven points and a career-high three blocks in a February win over Vanderbilt, tying for the most blocks by a Rebel in a game throughout the season. As a sophomore, he appeared in 25 contests off the bench, averaging 2.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 7.9 minutes per game. He shot 48 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc. His sophomore season was highlighted by a career high 11 points in the Rebels’ 70-62 win over the Kentucky Wildcats and was named to the SEC Winter Academic Honour Roll. This past season, Hunter played just over 10 minutes a game and averaged 2.9 points and 1.2 rebounds per game in 29 appearances. Prior to Ole Miss, Hunter concluded his prep basketball career at British Colombia Christian Prep and was recognised as one of the top players in Canada.
