Man accused of phone robbery

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN appeared in court yesterday in connection with an armed robbery of $16,000 worth of smartphones last December.

Travis Gibson, 22, stood before Senior Magistrate Samuel McKinney to face an armed robbery charge.

The prosecution alleged that Gibson used a handgun on Saturday, December 18, 2021, to rob the complainant, Dornell Brown, of 22 Apple and Samsung cellphones with a total value of $16,000.

In court, the accused was told by the magistrate that he was not required to enter a plea for the charge in Magistrate’s Court and that his case would be fast tracked to the Supreme Court by a voluntary bill of indictment.

He can apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

He is expected to return to court on May 6. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until then.
