QC Comets are BAISS swimming champions

THE Queen’s College Comets emerged as the champions of the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools’ 2022 Swim Championships held at the Betty Kelly Kenning Swim Complex on Friday.

At the end of the one-day meet that made its return to the local swimming calendar after a two-year hiatus featuring teams from eight different schools, the Comets compiled a total of 43 medals, including 16 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze.

The Lyford Cay International School got second with nine gold, five silver and four bronze for a total of 18 medals and St Andrew’s International School trailed in third with seven gold, five silver and four bronze for 16.

St Anne’s Blue Waves came in fourth with five gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze for their total of 26, St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine got fifth with five gold as well along with five silver and eight bronze for 18.

Rounding out the final three spots were St John’s College with two gold, two silver and two bronze for six medals, Aquinas College with one silver and three bronze for four medals and Temple Christian Academy had a total of one bronze.

Five different schools took home the six individual high point trophies with two of them added to the dominance of Queen’s College.

Saleste Gibson took the girls 11-12 title for Queen’s College with 27 points.

She was followed by her teammate Nia-Ishia Prince with 23.

The other title for the Comets came from Reis Knowles in the boys 15-16 division with 24, one point more than teammate Anthony Eccelston, who had 23.

St Anne’s Dijon Simmons was the winner of the boys 11-12 title with 27 points. Queen’s College got 20 points apiece from Damari Butler and Keron Burrows.

Winner of the girls 13-14 division was Erin Pritchard of St Andrews International School with 27 points. Quiana Bain of St Anne’s School was the runner-up with 21.

In the boys 13-14 division, Donald Saunders won the title for St John’s College with 25 points. Zion Gibson of St Andrews International came in second with 21.

And Lyford Cay International got a one-two punch in the girls 15-and-over division as Isabelle Zatarain led the way with 27, followed by Layla Saidi with 22.
