Daughter of pastor in court on drug charges

By PAVEL BAILEY

THE daughter of a well-known pastor was put on a year’s probation for drug related charges yesterday.

Kay’breann Miller, daughter of Apostle Kelson Miller, appeared before Senior Magistrate Samuel McKinney on a charge of possession of dangerous drugs.

On May 4 in New Providence Ms Miller was arrested after a police search of her residence uncovered 45 grams of suspected marijuana in her bedroom.

These drugs came in the form of 18 cookies, two silver baggies of brownies, and five Rice Krispy treats all infused with marijuana as well one clear bag full of the drug.

In a subsequent interview following her arrest the accused admitted to ownership of the drugs claiming that they were for her personal use.

In court, Miller pleaded guilty to the charge against her.

As part of her defence, the court was told that Miller has a history of recreational drug use stemming from the trauma of losing her mother at a young age.

The defence also highlighted that Miller was an entrepreneur and proprietor of KBM Enterprise Errand Runners and added that she was an active member in her father’s church. She also acts as the vocal coach for her church’s praise singers.

While her father wanted her to take responsibility for her actions, the defense still asked that the court be lenient in their sentencing.

In view of the fact that this was Miller’s first offence, Magistrate McKinney commended her for her work in the church and placed her on a year’s probation for the charge.

Should she breach her probation she would face a $1,000 fine or three months in prison.

The magistrate further informed the accused that the $1,700 seized during her arrest would remain in police custody and that she is ordered to attend drug counseling courses.

Upon completion of these courses Miller is expected to report to court on November 8 for evaluation.
