Bail granted in $4k bank theft case

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN was granted bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday after being accused of stealing over $4,000 from a local Royal Bank of Canada account.

Dowin Major, 50, stood before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on a charge of stealing.

Between July 13 and August 31, 2021 Major is alleged to have stolen a total of $4,400 from the RBC account of Marquez Thompson.

In court the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

As Major had no antecedents the Magistrate granted him $5,000 bail with one or two sureties, on condition that he sign in at Carmichael Police Station on the last Sunday of every month.

Major’s case was adjourned to August 4.
