Child abduction suspect faces charges in court

A MAN was charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday for allegedly attempting to kidnap a seven-year-old schoolgirl last March.

Alexander Coakley, 20, was represented by Quentin Percentie as he stood before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on a charge of attempted child stealing.

Shortly after 3pm on March 30, 2021, Coakley is accused of trying to abduct a seven-year-old girl from Nassau Christian Academy on Old Trail and Soldier Road.

Due to the serious nature of his offence, the accused was not required to enter a plea in court and was informed that his case would proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

Coakley was also informed that his trial would be heard in the Supreme Court, where he can also make a formal application for bail.

Until bail is granted, the accused will be sent back to the Bahamas Department of Corrections.

Coakley is expected to return to the Magistrate’s Court on July 29 for service of his VBI.
