‘He stole $1,800 of parts from my car’

By PAVEL BAILEY

A WOMAN testified yesterday in a Magistrate’s Court trial of a man she accused of stealing $1,800 worth of auto parts from her car.

Tonika Loretta, of Roswell Street, testified before Magistrate Kendra Kelley in the ongoing theft trial against Phillip Rolle.

On September 16, 2021, at around 4.50pm while at her residence, Ms Loretta claimed that she heard dogs barking outside and that she saw two men outside carrying her car bumper before entering a waiting vehicle.

When she went outside to investigate, she noticed that the bumper and fog lights of her 2012 green Honda Civic were missing.

Ms Loretta then told the court that after the incident she reviewed surveillance footage to identify the culprits.

Mention of this security footage led to Rolle’s attorney Ian Cargill objecting on the basis that the footage was not in court. Mr Cargill further cited documentary hearsay.

With the court agreeing to Cargill’s objections, Prosecutor Inspector Pyfrom asked the complainant what she did next after the theft to which Ms Loretta said she got the bumper replaced.

Ms Loretta said that the replacement of the stolen part cost $1,800 from True to Form Auto. The invoice for the purchase was presented to the court.

After her testimony concluded Magistrate Kelly informed the complainant that she will be recalled to court on June 7 for continuation of her testimony against the accused.
