Man accused of vagrancy granted bail

By PAVEL BAILEY

A MAN was granted bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he was alleged to have committed vagrancy and assaulted a police officer.

Victor Russell, 28, appeared before Senior Magistrate Samuel McKinney on multiple charges. These include vagrancy, deceit of a police officer, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

On May 22 at Building #8 on Oak Hill Road the suspect was found there without giving a satisfactory account for his presence.

Russell is further alleged to have lied to P/C 4239 Thompson by giving him a false name when the officer approached him and then in the process of resisting arrest, assaulting the officer.

In court the accused pleaded not guilty to all four charges against him.

As there was no objection to bail from Prosecutor Inspector Timothy Bain, the accused was granted $2,500 bail with one or two sureties.

Russell is expected to return to court for trial on August 2.
