Hotel employee accused of stealing $60,000

By PAVEL BAILEY

A WOMAN was granted $20K bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday where she was accused of stealing $60K from an Eleuthera hotel where she had worked for several months.

Gerrina Mel-Maria Cunningham, 43, of North Eleuthera, represented by Maria Daxon, stood before Magistrate Kendra Kelly on multiple charges. These include six counts each of money-laundering (acquisition), falsification of accounts and stealing by means of employment.

Between December 6, 2020 and June 8, 2021 Cunningham is alleged to have stolen a total of $60,000 in debit/credit card payments from her former employer, the Dunmore Hotel in Harbour Island. This was done through the manipulation of the Room Master/IQ Point of Sale System to illicitly transfer the money to an RBC account.

In court the accused pleaded not guilty to all 18 charges against her.

As the prosecution did not object, she was granted $20,000 bail with two sureties.

Under the conditions of her bail she is expected to sign in at the North Eleuthera Police Station every Wednesday before 6pm.

Failure to comply will result in Cunningham’s bail being revoked.

Cunningham’s trial will begin on August 10.
