Six-months’ probation after deceit charges

By PAVEL BAILEY

A WOMAN was put on six-months’ probation yesterday after being charged with two counts of deceit of a public officer.

Ricketa Newbold, 27, appeared before Magistrate Algernon Allen, Jr. on the charges.

On May 23 at University Drive, Newbold is accused of lying to D/C 4316 Bell and Cpl 3035 Ferguson by giving them a false name, which resulted in her arrest.

In court Newbold pleaded guilty to both charges against her.

After being in custody for three days the accused said she regretted her actions.

Magistrate Allen called her actions “stupid” and advised her to think more about what she is doing in the future.

Considering Newbold’s early plea of guilt and to protect her position as a chef at Baha Mar the Magistrate ruled that she be placed on probation for six months.

Should Newbold have any new charges during that time she would face a three-month prison sentence for each count to be served concurrently.

Barring any future criminal charges, the accused would return to court on November 28 to receive an absolute discharge in the matter.
