FINA World Cup Tour: Swimmer Nigel Forbes makes splash

BAHAMIAN Nigel Forbes marked a major move in open competition at the just concluded Indianapolis leg of the FINA World Cup Tour.

Forbes competed in the 25-metre pool in the 200- metre butterfly. He had splits of 57.14 and 1:04.24 to record a time of 2:01.38. That puts him as one of the fastest 16-17 swimmers ever in this race from the CARIFTA and CCCAN region.

Only Olympian Jarod Aaoyo of Puerto Rico, who did 1:58.22, Mathias Marsau of Guadeloupe (1:58.62) and Cayman Island’s Olympian Shaune Fraser (1:59.04) have swum faster.

This year in the long course pool, Forbes has captured the 15-17 CARIFTA title in 2:07.03, well off his national record of 2:03.27. However, his time of 2:06.75 was the fastest CARIFTA region swimmer at the World Junior Championships in Peru.
