A MAN was granted bail in Magistrate’s Court yesterday after he was charged with assault.

Patrico Leadon, 30, faced Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on charges of assault with a dangerous instrument, causing harm and unlawfully carrying arms.

Around 3.30pm on September 1 in Hope Gardens, Leadon was arrested for unlawfully carrying a cutlass.

On that same day and at the same place, Leadon is further accused of attacking Javen Fowler with the cutlass resulting in injury.

In court, Leadon pleaded guilty to the carrying of arms charge for which he was warned and discharged.

The court entered a not guilty plea for remaining charges as Leadon claimed that he only acted in self-defence during this incident.

As there were no objections to bail, $3,000 was   granted to the accused. Under the conditions of his bail, Leadon is expected to sign in at South Beach Police Station the last Sunday of every month.

Leadon’s trial is set to begin on February 1.

Another man, Kennedy Henfield, 33, faced Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on charges of threats of harm and assault with a deadly instrument.

Henfield is accused of threatening Patricia Mott and assaulting her with a knife on August 25 at Shady Hollow Lane.

In court, the accused pleaded not guilty to both charges.

He was granted $5,000 bail with one surety.

Henfield’s matter was adjourned to November 25.
