TWO MEN were were charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday on two separate cases of attempted murder.

One of the men was charged in connection with a carjacking. He is accused of shooting another man as he attempted to escape.

Cordero Johnson, 31, faced Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and arson to a motor vehicle.

Johnson is accused of robbing Peron Bain, while being concerned with another and armed with a handgun, of a red 2006 Dodge Durango valued at $10,000. The incident took place on March 3, 2015, on Cowpen Road.

The accused is then said to have shot and injured Bain as he tried to flee the robbery on foot.

Later the same day, Johnson is alleged to have set fire to the stolen vehicle in an effort to evade capture.

Johnson was not required to enter a plea in court. Instead his matter will be fast tracked to the Supreme Court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

As Magistrate Swain lacked the jurisdiction to grant the accused bail, Johnson was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS). The accused has the right to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.

Johnson’s VBI is expected to be served on November 23.

The second man, Matthew Capron, 33, also faced Magistrate Swain on an attempted murder charge.

Capron is accused of trying to kill Andy Barnette by repeatedly stabbing him on September 3.

He also was not required to enter a plea. His case will proceed to the Supreme Court by way of a VBI.

Capron’s bail was denied and he was remanded to BDCS.

Capron’s VBI is slated for service on November 23. He is represented by Tamara Taylor-Storr.
