A MAN accused of raping a woman while armed with a cutlass will have his trial heard before Justice Bernard Turner in the Supreme Court three months from now.

Christopher Forbes, 25, appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans yesterday where he was served and signed his VBI for two counts of rape and a charge of armed robbery.

On May 6 in New Providence, Forbes, armed with a cutlass, is accused of having sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent. He is also charged with stealing her $1,000 Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphone, a Samsung J4 plus phone worth $200 and her AirPods valued at $50.

Magistrate Vogt-Evans informed the accused of his notice of alibi, where he has within 21 days to notify the court of any people he wishes to present in court to corroborate his defence.

Before being taken back into custody at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services, Forbes told the magistrate that he believes his human rights are being violated in prison. He claimed that he sleeps on the concrete floor of his jail cell and that the facility lacks proper sanitation, airflow and hygiene, going so far as to say that he has to relieve himself in a bucket.

Forbes’ trial will begin on December 2.
