A MAN was fined $1,500 on Friday after admitting to marijuana possession.
Jeffrey Morley, 29, of Domingo Drive, along with three other men and a woman stood before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
They were represented by Ian Cargill and faced a charge of possession of dangerous drugs.
On September 7, at Morley’s residence, police, armed with a warrant, conducted a search for dangerous drugs and firearms. After authorities discovered 12oz of Indian hemp in a white bowl in the living room, they arrested all five accused at the scene.
In a subsequent police interview, Morley admitted to the offence. He said he intended to blend the drugs to bake his wife a weed cake.
Morley was the only accused to plead guilty to the charge in court. Prosecutor Inspector Timothy Bain revealed Morley had a previous drug conviction from November 2021. For this previous offence, he was ordered to pay a $300 fine or spend three months in prison.
Magistrate McKinney ordered Morley to pay a $1,500 fine for his most recent offence or risk six months in prison. Due to his previous drug charge, he is expected to pay this fine in full before his release. The remaining accused were discharged.
