A MAN was granted $8,000 bail yesterday in connection with possession of a firearm and drugs.

Dorestin Odestin, 20, represented by attorney Ian Cargill stood before Magistrate Shaka Serville on three charges. These include possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

On September 16 in New Providence, Odestin is said to have been found with a G2C Taurus 9mm pistol with the serial number erased as well as seven unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition. On the same day the accused is said to have been caught by authorities with nine grams of Indian hemp. The drugs have an estimated value of $180.

In court, Odestin pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Prosecutor Sergeant Deon Barr raised objections to the accused being granted bail on the basis that he has prior offences and pending charges before the Supreme Court, deeming him likely to reoffend.

The magistrate granted Odestin $8,000 bail with one or two sureties. Under the conditions of this bail he is expected to be fitted with an electronic monitoring device and is expected to continue to adhere to his Supreme Court imposed pre-existing sign-in conditions.

Odestin’s trial in this matter is to begin on January 18.
