A MAN was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in connection with a series of armed robberies in the nation’s capital.

During this alleged crime spree, the accused, with others, is said to have amassed almost $50,000 in stolen goods and cash.

Wayne Smith, 24, faced Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on charges of receiving and six counts of armed robbery.

Between August 31 and September 12 in New Providence, while being concerned with others, Smith is accused of robbing multiple persons and businesses. While armed with a handgun, the accused is said to have robbed the employees and patrons of both Restaurant Supply Store #2 and Fortune Star Super Market of an estimated $47,777.80 of cash and assorted property.

The accused was not required to enter a plea in court. He was informed that his case would proceed to the Supreme Court through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).

Having been denied bail in Magistrate’s Court, Smith was also told he has the right to apply for it in the Supreme Court.

Smith’s VBI is due for service on December 6.
