The Word and The Bahamas

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Please allow me a little space to express what was put on my heart concerning the Bahamas and the word that was given.

We talk and worry about things that concern us, other people, what other countries are doing and we want to be like them, to adopt their ways and forget where we have come from and what our forefathers stood on and fought for. Let us be reminded of who our forefathers trusted and who brought us this far. Isaiah 46:3-13 says it perfectly, you can read it for yourselves. (I have changed Jacob to Nassau and Israel to Bahamas) but before I quote Isaiah, I will quote Ecclesiastes 1:9, it says, “The thing that hath been it is that which shall be and that which is done is that which shall be done; and there is nothing new under the sun”, which is telling us, what is happening now, has happened before.

Isaiah 46:3-13, “Listen to me, O Nassau, all the remnant of the Bahamas who have been borne by me from before your birth carried from the womb; even to your old age I am he and to gray hairs, I will carry you. I have made and I will bear; I will carry and will save.

To whom will you liken me and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be alike? Those who lavish gold from the purse and weigh out silver in the scales hire a goldsmith and he makes it into a god; then they fall down and worship! They lift their shoulders, they carry it, they set it in its place and it stands there; it cannot move from its place. If one cried to it, it does not answer or save him from his trouble.

Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times, things not yet done, saying, my council shall stand and I will accomplish all my purpose. Calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my council, I have spoken and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed and I will do it.

Listen to me, you stubborn of heart, you who are far from righteousness; I bring near my righteousness, it is not far off, and my salvation will not delay; I will put salvation in Nassau, for the Bahamas my glory”.

The Word of God is here to teach and guide us and tell us of things that are to come. God in his mercy is reaching out to us for us to turn back to Him. There are forces at work in our nation. The number of deaths to our young men and children, not only here, are happening all over the world. We must stand and turn back to God, he made us a peculiar people, set apart for his purpose, let us not go after the world and what it is doing, for the world is at enmity with God.

A concerned believer,

... this country and her people were very different just 40 short years ago. People were more trustworthy, honorable, hard working and sensible. As this country strayed from its moral foundations, we became more corrupt, self centered and morally undisciplined. Now we are reaping the fruit of abandoning the values we held in esteem, but will we learn?
